GET BEYOND THE NEGATIVES

For a sales professionals today the negatives are overwhelming ! Almost everything you read in the newspaper or hear on TV news is negative and continues to point towards economic destruction for all of us. Is some or most of it real ? Probably ! But you have to deal with the real world also.

What is going to happen to all of us ? Where is all of this leading to - the chopping block ?

I sincerely don't know and I question who does know. It's to big and complex for any one person or group of people to have a lot of good answers. So, how do you deal with this situation ? You have to isolate yourself from all the negatives ( or most of them ). Look for positives ! They are there. But the media seems to ignore them or just not recognize them. An example, in my marketplace home sales for 01/09 were the highest since 01/07 ( both resales and new home sales ). There was not one mention on the local TV news. Granted they were at much lower prices than 07 but sales are up !

When I go to the weekly Business Journal for my area, I have to search out the positives. They are there. There are companies expanding. There are companies hiring. But they are not on the front page. Granted they are not in the majority and there is not an abundance like previous years. But there are positive things happening. I have numerous clients who are holding their own in the their sales volume. Are they ahead of last year ? One or two - yes. But many are still getting a viable share of what's happening.

My point ! You can't let the negatives get you down. As best you, can ignore them and keep doing what you know you need to do. Cold call, prospect, network, promote yourself, develop innovative campaign steps and get yourself in front of potential customers. I could give you many standard cliches about getting tough, etc., but you are in charge of your future. Now is the time to see how resilient you can be ! Build your skills and get inspired ! Stop whining and make it happen for you and your TEAM.

Last but not least, every salesperson is a part of the economic recovery we are all looking for ! Don't believe me - go to the Sunday classifieds and see where the most job opportunities are. Yes, it is the sales jobs which far outnumber any other professional group that are looking for producers ( well, maybe the need for nurses outnumber us in certain areas ). There is only one direction that is going to solve any of our problems - "MORE SALES".
